this weekend i'll be hard at work on some new pieces for valentine's day, which is only a little over 2 weeks away!  i'm hoping to make some heart-shaped pendants with swarovski crystals or maybe candy pink jade beads...  we'll see what i come up with!  if you have any suggestions, or are looking for something in particular, lemme know!

my latest creations

with all these recent snow days in the northeast (got another foot last night!) i've had plenty of time on my hands!  i'll be adding more items to my online shop today and throughout the weekend, including these lovely pieces:  i used brown color-coated copper and did some very loose wire-wrapping around light topaz and cobalt swarovski crystals.  the result was this matching set-- messy, organic, and just plain fun!  i haven't named these pieces yet.  let me know if you have any suggestions-- there just might be a special prize in it for you!

as usual, i'm in handmade mode, but today i'm in the kitchen:  for breakfast? blueberry muffins!  my daughter always swindles me into buying blueberries but never eats them, so today i decided to use them before they go to waste.  i found a recipe online, a la martha stewart, and they came out sooooo yummy that i have to share it!  happy baking!

as you can see, i did not put extra sugar and nutmeg on top-- so unnecessary-- yummmm!

next up:  my favorite-- a german chocolate cake!!  (no pics, 'cause i won't be making it completely from scratch, but it'll taste just as good, i'm sure!)

the mommy necklace

check out this nursing necklace i made for a friend whose sister just became a mom:  

made from pink jade, amethyst, chalcedony, and silver-plated metal, it features a dangling donut to keep baby's hands busy while nursing.  while i can't take credit for the idea, i certainly think i made it better.  Rather than using cheap acrylic beads, i used genuine gemstones, which won't scratch or lose their luster and are definitely much prettier.  also, the necklace my friend showed me had a breakaway clasp, which means that each time baby pulls hard enough, the necklace would fall off.  this would make the necklace "unbreakable" but you'd spend all day re-fastening it!  instead, i used strong beading wire and a toggle clasp-- still pretty unbreakable, but it will stay put all day long!

welcome to 2011!

and welcome to the new handmadecows blog!  in an effort to be more productive with my jewelry business, i have started this blog and will update it regularly.  i will keep you informed of new jewelry, events and opportunities, and more!
